Movie Weekend: Avengers: Infinity War @ Marion Palace Theatre

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A ruler of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language, and some crude references.

Running time is 2 hours, 29 minutes.

Movie Show Times: Sat, Jun 16 @ 2pm & 7:30pm | Sun, Jun 17 @ 2pm & 7:30pm

When available, Sunday afternoon movies will show with open captions.

Admission: $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2017-2018 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.

Summer Concert Series @ Erickson Pavilion: McKinley Pavilion

The 2018 Summer Concert Series will be at Erickson Pavilion in McKinley Park throughout the summer. Bring a lawn chair sit back, and enjoy the sounds of music in the park.

This concert will feature The Palace Theatre Big Band.

All concerts, unless rained out, will be taking place every Sunday at 7 p.m. through August 12th. Concerts are free.

Join us for our yearly picnic luncheon at the Mount Gilead State Park, Shelter House 1.  Hear an update from the State Park as Lora White proudly features and presents the completed new dam.
This luncheon is always a good time as we kick-off summer at the Shelter House.  Catered by 8 Sisters, lunch remains at $10.00.  Fun, photos and a Kroger give-away.  See you at the park!

Summer Reading Club 2018: Tuesdays Rock ‘N’ Art Series @ Marion Public Library

Summer Reading Club features incentives for kids who keep track of their reading over the summer, with prizes earned when they hit certain reading milestones.  Thousands of reading hours have been logged in each previous summer and community partnerships are a huge reason why the program is so successful.  Many local businesses contribute by donating coupons and freebies that serve as prizes for successful readers.

Teens will enjoy music from across the decades and try their hand at a different style of art each week. Rock out, with art! If you enjoy rock music and making art, you will definitely want to stop by!

Summer Reading Club 2018: Wednesdays Kids Create! @ Marion Public Library

Summer Reading Club features incentives for kids who keep track of their reading over the summer, with prizes earned when they hit certain reading milestones.  Thousands of reading hours have been logged in each previous summer and community partnerships are a huge reason why the program is so successful.  Many local businesses contribute by donating coupons and freebies that serve as prizes for successful readers.

This fun-filled program combines art with creative writing, and allows the participants the chance to create original works of art and expression. Each week the program will focus on a different style of prose or poetry, with complimentary artwork. This flexibility allows the participants to attend one, or attend them all. Kids will play games and respond to writing prompts designed to spark their creativity. They will also create their own writer’s notebook, as well as complete several other creative projects throughout the course of the program.

Summer Reading Club 2018: Wednesdays Creative Writing for Teens & Adults @ Marion Public Library

This program is for anyone who is interested in creative writing and artistic expression. Whether you are an experienced writer, or a novice just starting out, you have a story to tell! And this program will help you find your voice to do just that. We will explore journaling, poetry, and novel writing, as well as other forms of writing, in inspiring, exciting ways. Participants will create a writer’s notebook that will help them tap into their creativity far beyond the duration of this program. An opportunity to become a part of a supportive writer’s community to share your writing is also a focus of this program.

Ages 12 and up

Want to know what to do with those vinyl records collecting dust? We will be showing teens and tweens how to turn them into bowls with just a microwave! Teens with a passion for upcycling things will enjoy this program on making old records into display bowls. If you liked any of the previous upcycling programs, you won’t want to miss this one! Come make a display bowl, rock out, and recycle!

Have you ever wanted to see a penguin waddle around… right at your feet? The Newport Aquarium WAVE Foundation will present a live penguin encounter, teaching all about the life and times of these waddling wonders known as penguins, including what life is like on the endangered species list. If you’ve always wanted a chance to touch a penguin, maybe even take a selfie or picture with one, then you won’t want to miss this program!

The WAVE Foundation at Newport Aquarium strives to engage and educate about the wonders of aquatic life and the importance of conservation.
